Trimming Using Ensemble

FOR A VIDEO TOUR OF THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW: CLICK HERE.

In the Recording using Ensemble Anthem article, another way to trim your Ensemble videos that many people find more user-friendly and precise was mentioned. We will discuss this option in this article.

Step 1: Go to Ensemble

Navigate to the Ensemble website at https://wjc.ensemblevideo.com/ or you can access Ensemble through OneLogin

Login with your username and password.
Username: firstname_lastname
Password: WJC password

You will now see all of the videos that you have uploaded to Ensemble.

IMPORTANT: If you have just recorded a video and you do not see it in your Ensemble account, try refreshing the page. If you still do not see it, make sure that you have uploaded the video into Ensemble. You can double-check your steps in the Recording using Ensemble Anthem article.

Step 2: Trim the Video

Select the video that you would like to trim and click Edit.

Click Trim.

Now that you are on the correct page to trim, you can use the Start and End buttons to adjust the clip length. Play the video, hit Start when you want the clip to begin, and hit End when you want the clip to end.

TIP: If you have an idea of where you want to trim, you don't have to watch the whole video. You can move forward and backward in the video as you see fit.

IMPORTANT: Ensemble is primarily a lecture capture tool, NOT editing software. Therefore, it is sometimes not as precise as a tool like Camtasia, Final Cut Pro, etc, and you might find you won't get the timestamp exactly where you want. You can usually get it pretty close though!

When you click Start, the timestamp adjusts to match the timestamp in the video. If you were to click End instead of Start, the same thing would occur.

TIP: You can change the start and end times as much as you like so feel free to keep trying until you get it just right!

Once you're satisfied with the timestamps, change the title of the video.

TIP: Naming convention of any file, including these videos, can make or break your ability to find it a later date. You want to name the file in a way that allows you to know what video and version of the video it is. For example, you might find it useful to keep the original title name but add EDIT or FINAL at the end so you know that this is a edited video clip.

Click Save Clip

Think of this as Save As. It will create a new video so you will still have the original version if you would like to make any changes.

Your new trimmed video has been created!

You can select whatever option you like.  Go to Media Library will take you back to your Ensemble media library where you can see your new video in your account.

Step 3: View your new video

Your new video (1) will be above its original video (2).

TIP: It is always a good practice to watch and make sure that the video was cut exactly where you wanted it to. If you view the video and don't like where it began or finished, you can always go back into the original video and try again by following these steps!

Once you have confirmed that the video is exactly how you like it, you can view and share with others!
